The Service Life of the Control Cable

1. Learn about the control cable

The control cable is a PVC insulated and PVC sheathed control cable suitable for industrial and mining enterprises, energy and transportation departments, and for the control and protection of lines with an AC rated voltage below 450/750 volts. Control cables have the characteristics of moisture-proof, anti-corrosion and damage-proof, and can be laid in tunnels or cable trenches. Power cables are used to transmit and distribute high-power electrical energy in the main line of the power system. The rated voltage of the control cable is generally 450/750V. The working temperature of the control cable: rubber insulation is 65 ℃, PVC insulation is 70℃ and 105℃ two grades. The control cables used in the computer system generally use PVC, polyethylene, cross-linked polyethylene and fluoroplastic insulation products.

2. The service life of the control cable

The service life of the control cable is determined by the oxidation induction period of the sheath material. Generally, the control cable is designed to be used for 20 years, which is the longest service life of the control cable. Although it may be longer in real life, from the perspective of safety, the design life is the longest life of the control cable. Factors affecting the service life of control cables and methods for prolonging the service life of control cables:

1) The control cable should not be exposed to moisture, heat and corrosion. Because the sheath of the cable has a certain protective effect on the cable, heat and corrosion have a greater impact on the cable.

2) Do not overload the control cable. Overloading the cable will cause direct damage to the insulation and sheath of the cable, affecting the life of the cable or directly damaging the cable.

3) For the lines of old buildings, if they are found to be submerged or wet, especially if the lines are in disrepair and aging, please immediately ask an electrician to repair them.

4) The control cable should avoid cable joint failure. The cable joint failure will cause a short circuit of the cable, which will not only cause damage to the cable, but even damage the electrical appliance.

5) Control cable product itself: try to choose national standard cable, cheap non-standard cable is easy to cause short circuit, and the service life of non-standard cable itself is short.

6) The environment and temperature where the control cable is located. The external environment and heat source where the control cable is located will also cause the control cable to overheat, break down the insulation, and even explode and catch fire.
