What are the Advantages of XLPE Insulated Cable Stranded Wire?

XLPE insulated cable uses multi-core round stranded wire. The advantages of such stranded wire are as follows:

1. The electric field is more uniform than the electric field of a sector conductor, which is beneficial to increase the voltage level of the cable;

2. Increasing the flexibility or curvature of the conductor. The wire core stranded by multiple wires has good flexibility and greater curvature.

Since when a single metal conductor is bent along a radius, the outer part of its center line must be elongated, while its inner part is shortened. When there are multiple conductors, the wires can slide between wires, and at the same time, the inner and outer parts of the center line of stranded circular wire core can move to compensate each other, it will not cause plastic deformation of the wires when bending, which greatly improves the flexibility and stability of the wire core. The bendability of the XLPE insulated cable is approximately proportional to the square root of the number of stranded wires, the more stranded wires, the easier it is to bend, but the bendability of the cable is also limited by the outer protective layer. Therefore, a certain number of strands is specified when manufacturing conductors of different nominal cross-sections.

3. In order to prevent twisting phenomenon, the twisting direction of each layer is opposite to the left and right, so that each layer of wires has a fixed position and is not easy to spread. When subjected to bending, each layer of wires has the same degree of elongation.The number of single wire in the wire core can generally be expressed by the following formula: K=1+6+12+…+6n(n=1, 2, 3,…), the size of the conductive wire core is calculated according to the cross-sectional area, being measured in square millimeters, and the standards of core cross-sections are different in different countries.

The commonly used wire core cross-section specifications of XLPE insulated cables are 300, 400, 630, 1000, etc, and the cross-sections of copper and aluminum conductors are produced according to the above specifications.
